How does Reflexology Work?
In general terms, reflexology reduces stress and returns the body to a state of balance (homeostasis).
In technical terms, here is a better explanation. It has been medically proven that stress contributes to 80% of our illnesses. Stress is the body's natural reaction to certain circumstances, and should only happen for brief periods of time.
The sympathetic nervous system is called into action when our body is under constant stress. Nature calls this the "fight or flight" response. In a moment of stress the body has to decide whether to stay and fight, or whether to flee. This type of stress was never meant to be felt in the body for extended periods of time.
All living beings strive to be in a state of balance. Reflexology promotes a state of relaxation caused by a response in your central nervous system. This is called the parasympathetic response (also known as the rest and digest mode). It is in this state that healing can take place.
What to expect during a session
During a session, we will begin with a brief health questionnaire. You will be seated in a special chair. This chair is sometimes referred to as a zero gravity chair. This is because you feel very light.
The session will take from 45 minutes to 1 hour. During that time, I will ask you if you are comfortable with the amount of pressure being used. You will feel that some areas are sensitive and that is to be expected. You should never experience pain. You are in control of your session, and you can ask for more or less pressure.
I will be keeping a chart of any sensitive areas you may have. You can look at this chart after your session; many people find this information very interesting.
We will end your session with a soothing foot massage. You can bring a lotion of your choice or choose from the selection that I bring. You will receive a sample of scented Epsom salts. These are scented from pure essential oils, and I have many scents to choose from. This is for you to use in a foot soak at a later time.
